There’s something magical about springtime childhood portraits—the soft light, fresh colors, and the way little ones come alive in the season. As a Perry Hall children’s photographer, I specialize in storytelling portraits like these—full of wonder, personality, and the charm of childhood. This session, featuring my own grandchildren, perfectly reflects the kind of timeless, heartwarming imagery I love to create for families who value custom art.

The Scene

A few years ago, we gathered them together for an Easter portrait session. The scene was thoughtfully styled: a gorgeous Baby Dream Backdrops background (would you believe it’s made of fleece?) and spring props placed just so to set the stage.

You'll notice the level of detail in each frame—this kind of setup doesn’t happen by accident.

Scouring the Internet for the perfect coordinating outfits is one of my favorite pre-session rituals. Maddie’s sweet little vintage hat came from an antique shop in Denton, North Carolina, and her pink-and-green plaid dress was a lucky Facebook Marketplace find. Since toddlers grow faster than weeds and wear these outfits once if we're lucky, thrifting is half the fun. Luke’s outfit, purchased new, echoed the same soft pink and green in a smaller check pattern—perfect for tying the whole look together.

And then the tornado...

Of course, no styled session with toddlers goes completely according to plan.

Once dressed, it turned into a full-on "bunny" chase.  They were both immediately intrigued by the basket of props.   And those darling little faux chicks?  Their original placement didn’t stand a chance.

It was all worthwhile...

Still, between the gentle chaos and toddler curiosity, I managed to sneak in a few “keepers”—those magical in-between moments that make all the effort worthwhile.

And just like that, they were finished with all the scene "redecorating" and made their adorable escape (cover photo).

One day, they’ll look back on these images and smile just like I do now. Even though the session was styled with props and a carefully chosen setup, what shines through most is them—their curiosity, their expressions, their personalities.

Whether it’s springtime magic, storybook scenes, or simply the sweet, unscripted moments of toddlerhood you want to remember in their own surroundings, I craft each Maryland children's portrait experience with heart, intention, and an artist’s eye. If these images brought a smile to your face, just imagine your own custom family portrait experience in Perry Hall or beyond.
